How to Choose the Best Kind of Portfolio for Your Photography

Read Time:2 minsLanguages:

As a photographer, images are just the start. How do you decide which are your best photographs? How do you selectively choose the best that represent your style, and then what’s the best way to display those in a portfolio to someone who may not be familiar with your work?

What Kind of Portfolio Do You Need?

You have a collection of photos, but now what do you do with them? This lesson looks at what to include in your portfolio and how to display them. We’ll look at website self-builds like Wordpress, and photo hosting sites like Zenfolio and Smugmug. We’ll also talk about the importance of a responsive site, so it looks good no matter what device it’s viewed on.

If you’re choosing a PDF portfolio, then the lesson looks at how to lay our your photographs in an easy to read document that relates well to your current branding. If you prefer a hardcopy portfolio, then there are suggestions on what might have a better impact, such as tastefully mimicking the style of your photography with your binding materials.
