Lewis Hine is considered one of the pioneers of the American journalistic photography tradition. He documented child labor across the United States in an effort to eradicate the practice. Through the use of honest, well-executed portraits and other documentary images, he attempted to raise the awareness of the practice and reveal it as brutality. This two-part video series chronicles his work.
You can see a large collection of Hine's work at shorpy.com.
