Hi, I'm Cindy Burgess for Tuts+. Welcome to the course. I'm really excited about showing you how to record better travel videos. I love to travel and explore new places and cultures. I've had some amazing experiences over the years from storm chasing in Tornado Alley in the United States, to swimming with sharks in Mexico and Belize, to melting the soles off my sneakers on an active volcano in Guatemala. As a journalist, I've been documenting my travels for years through the written word, photographs and video. Without a doubt, video is the most powerful medium for storytelling. There's no better way to show people, places and events as they really are. Video can take you right to the heart of the action and make you feel like you're there yourself, seeing and hearing everything that's going on. Video elicits memory and emotion. It inspires action. The good news is, it's easier to record video than ever before. These days, pretty much everyone has a video camera with them all the time useably through their smartphone. In many cases, this is all people were taken with them when they traveled capture the highlights of their trip. There's just one problem though, very few people really know how to capture video beyond hitting the record button a quick spin through YouTube is all the proof you need. There are thousands of hours of boring, jerky, blurry pointless travel videos. I think we've all been cornered by that friend or relative who's just returned from a big trip and forces you to sit down, and watch their travel videos of three hours of them. Chances are you haven't even watched half the video, you've shot as a traveler. In this course, you'll learn how to record compelling travel videos. Videos that people will want to watch and share, and maybe even buy. You'll learn about the pros and cons of different types of video cameras, and which tools and accessories you might want to pack along. You'll also learn how to compose your shots, capture great audio and use video for its strengths to tell a story. And you'll learn how to protect your gear from the elements and navigate foreign cultures, and customs while you're traveling. So, let's get started and learn how to record better travel videos.Back to the top
