9.2 Building Your Kit

When it comes to production sound, there are lots of options. The first piece of crucial kit is the microphone. There are two types of microphones most commonly used today, the Dynamic and Condenser mics. The dynamic microphone is designed to withstand abuse and high sound levels without distortion. The flip side of that is dynamic mics aren’t as sensitive and interpret sound much less accurately than the condenser. Condenser microphones are used for more critical applications. Different kind of microphones include shotgun, and hyper cardioid. This section will delve further into the purposes of these mics. You will also learn in detail about boompoles and shockmounts.
