How to Correct Exposure in Photos With Lightroom Mobile

When you are on the go—making, editing, and sharing images non-stop—Lightroom Mobile can keep you lean and productive. One of the most comprehensive and utilitarian mobile apps out there, it provides a wide array of editing tools, from the most foundational, like modifying the contrast, to the more advanced, like applying selective edits.

In this tutorial, we start with the basics: how to correct the exposure in an image. Check out how easy it is to increase the exposure of your photograph (make it lighter) or decrease the exposure of your photograph (make it darker). Read the steps that follow. With just a few finger taps, you’ll see your image go from unsavory to just right.

The Basics

Adobe Lightroom Mobile is an intuitively designed app with an impressive array of editing tools that make post-production a breeze from the palm of your hand. This and forthcoming tutorials focus on the editing capabilities Lightroom Mobile provides, but it is equally powerful at helping you organize, store, share your images via its syncing capabilities—and it even captures images in HDR.

Lightroom can be purchased on its own, with continued access to the latest updates and releases, or by purchasing a Creative Cloud Photography plan. Both options start at $9.99 a month. Creative Cloud plans come packaged with other perks and apps, as well as GBs of cloud storage. Businesses, students & teachers, and schools & universities are offered special plans and pricing. You can also try it out by activating a free seven-day trial.

How to Correct Exposure in Photos With Lightroom Mobile

1. Open Lightroom Mobile

Open Lightroom Mobile.

2. Select the Image

Locate the image you would like to edit.

3. Tap Light

At the bottom of the screen in the editing tool scroll bar, tap Light.

Doing so reveals options for editing the light in your photograph.

4. Move the Exposure Slide

The Exposure Slide within the light editing tools allows you to achieve the desired exposure.

Moving the Exposure Slide to the left makes the image darker, decreasing the exposure.

Moving the Exposure Slide to the right makes the image lighter, increasing the exposure.

5. Tap the Arrow

Once you have modified the exposure of your image, tap the arrow at the top left to save your edits.

6. Enjoy Your Exposure-Corrected Image

Alas! Your exposure-correct picture! The white dot below the Light editing icon signifies your edits have been made.

Expose for Perfection

Even if you didn’t get the exposure correct at the time you made the picture, there’s no excuse for not perfecting after the fact. Incredibly easy to adjust in just a few taps (give or take), your image can go from “meh” to magnificent. Lightroom Mobile gives you this essential control no matter where you are, so that you can get back to doing what inspires you: looking, looking, looking.
